A Comprehensive Approach to Care
As a specialty referral hospital, the GVS team works directly with your veterinarian
for optimal care of your pet. That means that you will be referred to GVS by your
doctor. In this way, think of GVS as an extension of your family veterinarian’s
practice and a partner who shares a common goal: creating every opportunity for
your pet to live a longer and healthier life.
Inside GVS
When most people come to Georgia Veterinary Specialists, their first impression
is often one of surprise. Inside the large brick building is an advanced specialty
referral hospital that mirrors the most progressive of human hospitals. As one of
just a few dozen hospitals of its kind in the country, GVS is indeed unique. Once
you come in, you’ll immediately get the sense that this is the place where your
pet will have access to the most advanced medical care available.
Our contemporary and spacious waiting area is designed to be a pleasant environment
because we understand that your pet (and perhaps you) may already be a bit nervous
about being in a strange place. We try to reduce the stress as much as possible
through comfortable surroundings and friendly staff throughout the entire 30,000
square foot facility.
If you have an appointment with one of our veterinary specialists, you will be taken
to one of the private exam rooms and diagnostic suites. If you have arrived at GVS
with an emergency, our staff will quickly assess your pet’s condition so that he
can been seen within a time frame appropriate to his condition.
Our Hospital
Due to the critical and complex nature of the pets we see here at GVS, many will
need to be hospitalized. The Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is the "heart" of our facility.
This unit , which is also part of our emergency services, functions much like a
human hospital ICU – with all the necessary technology to allow the doctors and
nursing staff to closely monitor and treat your seriously ill or injured pet.
The state-of-the art surgery suites are equipped with monitoring devices similar
to those used in human hospitals. A skilled technician is always present, working
hand-in-hand with the veterinary surgeon to monitor and report all vital signs throughout
the procedure to ensure that your pet’s surgery and anesthesia meets the highest
medical standards.
Diagnostics
GVS also has a fully staffed radiology department, supervised by a board-certified
veterinary radiologist. With multiple diagnostic tools in the department, including
digital radiography, a full range of diagnostic procedures – from the complex to
the routine – can be done here. GVS has a CT system and MRI on site for more detailed
scans of patients, as well as comprehensive ultrasound capability, and endoscopic
diagnostics. An in-hospital laboratory ,furnished with state-of-the art laboratory
equipment, allows our doctors to quickly obtain test results.
Our Grounds
One of our best-kept secrets is just outside our back doors. The grounds of GVS
include a pristine and peaceful five-acre nature preserve that will promote a peaceful
sense of place -- you may even forget you are so close to the hustle and bustle
of the city. Our commitment to your pet and to you is not only to offer extraordinary
care, but also to make the visit or stay as comfortable as possible. We think GVS
is a special place. We believe you will, too.
